Julianne Hough's New Haircut Is Perfect For Growing Out Your Hair

There are exactly two phases that come after you chop all your hair off: First, the excitement over your new short hair. Then, after about two months, the despair sets in. Your short hair has started to grow out and you’re smack in the middle of the awkward “in-between phase.” So, do you start the cycle all over again? Or do you tough it out?

May we suggest taking a note from Julianne Hough? The Grease Live star went to Riawna Capri, a stylist at Nine Zero One salon in Los Angeles, to chop into a “modern day shag.”

“She’s growing out her hair, but as we all know, that gets boring,” says Capri. “The shag is perfect for the in-between stage of growing out your hair. It gives you something a little different without cutting off your length.” Check out the video Capri posted showing off Hough’s new shag:

And this isn’t the first time we’re seeing the shag cut: Jennifer Aniston and Kim Kardashian’s stylist Chris McMillan penned an entire ode to the shag cut, calling it the best way way to get over the in-between phase. “The coolest way to grow out a bob is to get a shag,” he writes. “Just remember to keep your layers long (you should be able to tuck them behind your ears) and your texture natural.” And just last summer, we had Matt Fugate, a stylist at Serge Normat in New York City, explain why shag haircuts are the best choice when you’re trying to grow out your lob. We’re not going to say we told you so, but…, well, yes we are.
